Pupdate

So, Hornsby is a real mess right now. I'll have to take pictures of his mutilated eye. It's incredi-gross. He had surgery yesterday on his eye and he was neutered at the same time. Poor guy. He's getting along OK. We had to put the E-collar back on, which means that he can't navigate the house for shit. He takes more medication than a retiree.

They shaved his eye and he has some stitches around it, which doesn't look too appealing, but overall he's doing OK.

As far as I can tell he had some kind of kennel cough that has cleared up since I last hyperventhilated about it. He's out of the cough medicine and we finish the antibiotics tonight so we'll see what happens. It doesn't look as though Fitzgerald caught whatever he had, so I guess we're lucky in that respect.

Now, this past weekend I went to Houston to spend some quality time with my dear sister Sara for her birthday. She shares a birthday with her twin, Kara, who was vacationing with our brother and sister-in-law in the Rocky Mountains. So, I couldn't leave Sara to party without some kind of family representation. Boy am I glad I decided to come along! It was a blast. From hanging out with some of her good friends and people I knew like, forever ago, it was just a fantastic time! The copious beer didn't hurt either!

w00t! Go Hornsby! He's like some kind of 'Nam Dog. Does he have a steely glint in his eye that tells of an experience he can't describe, as if to say 'You weren't there man! The Man screwed us!'?

errr.....lol!

You ever in Houston in February? Cos the Matt Train is coming to town! lol!

For real? I'll make it down to Houston if you'll be there, promise! Just let me know when precisely a month or two in advance!

Totally, Nick is getting married in Canada - gonna do a week there, a bit a time in Pitt then down to see Mr Caslassy in Houston. I was going to go to Dallas for a couple days if you and the Davester were around for a drink or two but thought I'd check the chances of you bein up in Houston first to possible save on the travel and increase my Mooching time! :p

Hornsby is a tough cookie, he is. By the way, his name sounds like one of those you might find at IKEA!

Well darnit, wish I could be in Houston too! And to think, I was that close in Dallas and couldn't come to see you in March, Jo :(((

*sulk*

Livvy, I was just thinking about that... You weren't stateside for pleasure though, and I understood that. I still think It'd be a helluva time to go out and have some Tex Mex and Dos Equis!

P.S. I was browsing the new 2008 catalog in bed last night and I fell asleep dreaming of a cool new red bookcase!

Matt: Dave and I will make ourselves available. Better yet, being in Houston you have to have the best experience ever: Southern Hospitality, othewise known as getting wasted with strangers!

Looking forward to it!

Woot! If I ever find myself in Dallas, but more likely Houston....I shall let you know.

Did you see my comment to Matt on his wedding shenanigans post, about what to see in Houston? Oh, and what to eat. Like Los Cucos and Saltgrass and Katz's Deli. If he were there for longer I'd even suggest Empire Cafe and the Hobbit Cafe. :)

Getting wasted with strangers, if it were an olympic sport i'd be int he national squad ;)

OMG. Empire cafe, House of Pies, Los Cucos, Katz's, Alfonso's, Onion Creek, etc. etc. I wish Diedrich's was still alive. Best fresh pastries!

Oh, Houston for the food! DOn't forget Rudy's BBQ!!!

Olivia said...

Oh my gosh, I forgot House of Pies, it's where we hung out when we got hungry at night, or Biba's 24 hr cafe. I remember a lot of people were disappointed when Diedrich's closed.

I WANT TO COME HOME...!

MattJ said...

You have a pl;ace called House of Pies?! Right. I am definitely coming. though i suspect that this is only a purveyor of the dessert style pie? As opposed to meaty goodness pies?

Olivia said...

Hehe, you are quite right, Matt. But their generous savoury menu more than makes up for the lack of meaty pies. I can't speak for the whole country, but Southerners don't tend to eat meaty pies...The climate doesn't lend itself to pies and gravy. In fact one December we made a roast with gravy and Yorkshire pudding and went right off it.

P.S. www.houseofpies.com

The whole name of my holiday blog was 'they don't have pie?' which indicated my displeasure at the barbarians not embracing the all enveloping awesomeness of pastry :p Everything tastes betetr when it's in a pie, it's a simple rule! :D

MattJ said...

OK, that aside. the dessert pies looke - to quote Bernard Shaw - 'Awesome-o!'. One question, they list cheesecake there - is it proper cheesecake or that silly baked stuff? :p

Olivia said...

Tis proper cheesecake of course!

MattJ said...

In that case I am there, it needs to be compared to my two best Cheesecake experiences - the Sicilian Lemon I had somewhere and the 'large scoop of mascapone and biscuit' with cooked cherries one I had at Sheekey's ;) (at which point I finally silenced April - a firm advocate of the silly baked cheesecake!)

Olivia said...

Luna - have you ever had this many comments?

Olivia said...

Jo - dunno why I still call you Luna...

Miss Dallas said...

I think so, I have had this many before, but I think it was a similar exchange to this, either pondering something yummy in Houston or why I haven't gotten off my bum and updated!

by the way, you two are the best-est!

Hehe, cool! x

Wait! Where did the photos at the bottom of this post suddenly come from???

Your friend on the left reminds me of a girl I went to uni with, and my old roomie just sent me pics of all of them at a party in Houston. *nostalgia central*
