My first State Fair of Texas Corny Dog. Below are pictures from our 2005 State Fair exploits. We saw the "Secret Art of Dr. Seuss" exhibit, gawked at Rock n' Roll artifacts, saw Elvis and whatnot! Yay for the fair!

I don't even want to know what that thing is but nothing good comes in that colour!

Basically, it's reprocessed animal flesh (pick your carcass, but I think it's mostly pork and beef) on a stick that is then covered in cornmeal and doused in a deep-fryer. Voila! Corny dog! It does a real number on the bowels though. Don't expect to leave the bathroom when you get home after eating one. Especially if you usually abstain from eating anything reprocessed or deep-fried.

Abstain from eating anything preprocessed and deep fried. You've never been to Britain have you? Preprocessed and deep fried is the staple diet.

In Scotland they batter and deep fry mars bars, snickers. Pretty much anything in fact, it it isn't nailed down they batter it and stick it in a frier. I am now abstaining from preprocessed (well, mostly ;)) deep fried stuff and moving back to my culinary talents! Just a soon as I find somewhere that serves fresh food anyway! lol!

I thought Brits ate much more healthily... but, alas, I've never been across the pond, so I wouldn't know.

Deep-fried in itself is a culinary technique in Texas, where we deep-fry steak, pickles, sandwiches (especially the peanut-butter-banana kind), ice cream, popped corn and a whole host of things that, in fact, WERE NEVER MEANT TO BE DEEP-FRIED!!! (However, I am a fan of pickle chips!)

The best corn dogs are always at the Fair. You're right, though. One, and you're pretty much done for the day.

Mmmm...fried pickles...*drool*

sounds like Texas should be twinned with Scotland :-P
